Partner Critique

I watched Allison P. I found it very clear the emotions that Allison’s dance elicited from her text. The beginning especially, I thought, showed confusion and feeling lost. Her musicality was very good, especially with the sound-effects at the beginning. She emphasized both sharp and smooth sounds and beats. At other times she also worked against the music which had a nice effect. Also the part where she created a beat with her steps was very unique and syncopated. One suggesting I had for movement quality was that instead of the high batmas being on relevĂ© and very “up,” instead it might have been more powerful if they were more grounded and in plee. The piece definitely had a clear beginning, middle, and end. You could divide the sections by both the music and the movement. There numerous levels used. She started on the ground, then when she was up she had both grounded positions and higher levels as well. She used up a lot of space and used a floor pattern during the stomping section. She danced the entire piece full out and with a lot of emotion. She portrayed the meaning of her text both through movement and through her expression throughout the piece.
